Coming to Charlotte in June! Reach out to get on MJ’s waitlist!

Hi! I’m Maighia Vang - feel free to call me MJ. I’m honored to be part of your journey. As an LCSW-A, I bring two years of experience as a Hmong American therapist and four years as a medical social worker, supporting clients with complex medical challenges and navigating cultural complexities while providing mental health counseling across the lifespan.

Living with Meniere’s disease has given me a personal understanding of navigating health challenges. I empathize deeply with clients facing medical conditions and support them in overcoming barriers, adjusting to change, and building meaningful lives with different abilities. I work with children, adolescents, and adults and provide individual, couples, and family therapy, with experience treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), borderline personality disorder (BPD), major depressive disorder (MDD), and other concerns.

What I find most meaningful in this work is helping you build a life that aligns with your values. My approach is holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel seen and understood, and where growth and healing can take place. I consider the connection between your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being, and tailor therapy to your unique experiences. I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to support children and adolescents in processing trauma, and I will be working toward EMDR certification.

Outside of my work, I enjoy hiking, exercising, baking, and spending time with my children.

You’ll vibe with MJ if…
You’re navigating life with more on your plate than most, whether that’s a medical condition, cultural expectations, family dynamics, or past experiences that still impact you - and you’re looking for a therapist who truly gets it.

What you might be struggling with (but not saying out loud):
“I feel like no one understands what I’m dealing with.”
“I’m trying to adjust, but this isn’t the life I expected.”

What therapy with MJ feels like:
Grounded, compassionate, and deeply understanding. MJ creates a space where all parts of your experience are welcome—your culture, your health, your story—so you can feel seen, supported, and empowered to move forward in a way that aligns with your values.

MJ is especially helpful if you:

  • Are navigating a chronic illness or medical challenges

  • Feel caught between cultural expectations and your own needs

  • Are working through trauma, depression, or complex emotional experiences

  • Want a holistic, culturally sensitive approach to healing
